Pewter Silver with a saddle interior, this three-owner ZR1 has been driven only 24,600 miles. It was delivered new to Rosenthal Chevrolet Company in Arlington, Virginia, and 46 years later retains its original LT1 350 CI engine, tank sticker and Protect-O-Plate. Offered from 1970 to 1972, the ZR1 continued the tradition of race-ready Corvette option packages, similar to the L88s from 1967-69. For 1972, the ZR1 came from the factory with a solid-lifter LT1 350 CI engine, M22 “rock crusher” close-ratio 4-speed, F41 heavy-duty suspension, J56 heavy-duty power brakes, transistor ignition and high-capacity aluminum radiator assisted by a metal fan shroud and thermostatic fan. In the first year of net horsepower specifications, the ZR1 was rated at 255 HP and 360 lb-ft of torque, although it was essentially the same LT1 engine that had been gross rated at 330 HP in 1971. Tinted glass and Positraction were standard equipment, but the ZR1 was not available with creature comforts like air conditioning, power steering or radio. Code-named for “Zora Racer One” in tribute to legendary Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, the high-revving ZR1 was purpose-built for production racing, starting with the LT1 engine that was equipped with 4-bolt-main bottom end; forged crank, rods and pistons; free-breathing cylinder heads; solid-lifter camshaft; and dual-plane aluminum intake manifold topped by a 780 CFM Holley 4-barrel carburetor. For improved handling, the F41 suspension added a larger front sway bar, seven-leaf rear spring, stiffer shock absorbers and heavy-duty rear spindle struts. This ultra-rare Corvette has been honored with Bloomington Gold certification, an NCRS Top Flight and the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals’ Triple Diamond awards.
